SALARY RANGE: $40,000 – $50,000 USD annually – commiserate with experience
Position Title: AEA General Manager
The AEA is looking for an energetic and positive manager, leader and motivator with initiative and the ability to continue the current programs and develop new programs.
Basic Function of Position:
The position is in charge of a growing, dynamic retail organization with over $1million in revenue. The American Employees Association (AEA) is an organization dedicated to serving its membership: U.S. direct hire employees of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. The General Manager operates and oversees all of the AEA programs as well as initiates and develops new programs. The duties include oversight of the facilities, reconciling finances, maintaining a strict budget, managing staff, and building relationships with outside contractors and suppliers. Current AEA programs include a commissary/retail outlet store, online retail shopping website, a cafeteria operation, an annual summer camp, and a U.S. studies program. Some programs are open to the expatriate community as well as to U.S. Embassy employees. Although the General Manager works under the direction and guidance of the AEA Board of Directors, the position requires a self-start with strong leadership skills, who can work independently and without direct supervision.

At least two (2) years management experience are required, with at least one (1) year of experience focusing on inventory controls, budgeting, and financial management, including auditing.
Additional qualifications should include a combination of any of the following items:
• Point of sale systems & inventory controls
• Summer camps and early childhood education programs
• International managerial experience
• Participation in and familiarity with non-profit organizations
• Public Relations and marketing
• Familiarity with Customs regulations and handling
• Cross-organizational collaboration
• Online sales
• Addressing human resource and staffing issues
• Experience representing and serving membership-based constituents.
• Created and implemented community programs.
Fluent speaking/reading/writing in English required
Rudimentary Knowledge spoken Mandarin Chinese preferred
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Must have good knowledge of MS Office suite, and professional writing skills.
Must be able to work with a variety of ranking officials and individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Must be proactive and team-oriented, and have strong customer service skills.
The AEA will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
